If you have been following any news about the future of the SEATTLE Sonics, you can see it is pretty grim. Howard Schultz (of Starbucks fame) owned the Sonics, but sold them to Resident Asshole, Clayton (Clay) Bennett from Oklahoma. When he first signed up, he said he was going to keep the Sonics in Seattle... he even made appearances in front of the crowd before games to talk with the fans to confirm. But, I have been to several games this season, and have not seen him once.
A group has been formed called Save Our Sonics and can give a more detailed run-down than I can. Many people have claimed that "The Sonics Suck, let them move." But, it is really Clay's fault once again. He has traded away our superstars, sometimes in the case of Kirk Thomas, he traded for NOBODY. But, last night? None of the politics mattered. With no chance of moving to the finals, Sonics fans came and filled the seats of Key Arena, and cheered louder than any game the entire year. "Save Our Sonics" and "Clay Bennett Sucks" chants went throughout the entire night. When Gary Payton was pointed out in the crowd, the whole building stood on their feet and cheered. The love in the building was overpowering. The Sonics belong in Seattle, and it will be a sad day if money and dirty politics can take something away that a city loves. Read a great SI article: here.
