A Scanner Darkly
reviewed by: Tommy Skaggs

Animation? Amazing.

Storyline? Not so hot.

A Scanner Darkly presents an all-star cast that are involved in a drug related adventure. The plot is very simple, and unexciting. Keanu Reeves is Bob Arctor, an anonymous, undercover agent assigned to look deeply into trafficing of a drug called Substance D. He was given the task to watch him and his friends, while trying to avoid addiction.

REALLY – this is a visually innovative film. I am still wondering how the animation was created. I am guessing it was some sort of filter applied to captured video, but I am not totally sure. This style is similar to any cell shaded animation, such as the video game XII.

I watched this movie with my girlfriend Justine. She LOVED it.

With the limited release in the Tacoma area, it was somewhat hard to find a theater playing this movie. But, luckily the Grand Cinema had me covered.

My Score (out of 5):
